Before the day

Moving in Durham: what we plan for

Condo buildings

Most condos ask for an elevator or loading dock booking, a deposit and a certificate of insurance before move day, and many allow moves only in set hours. We send the certificate to your building at no charge, and arrange the booking ourselves where your quote says so.

Houses and older homes

Much of Durham's newer housing is in Brooklin, Courtice and Bowmanville, where closing-day keys are not always released in the morning, so we keep the start time flexible. North Durham is mostly rural. Each spring the Region limits vehicles to five tonnes per axle on many Regional roads, and local municipalities restrict their own, so country moves are routed and sized to suit.

Parking and timing

Whitby bans parking on all Town roads from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. between November 1 and April 15, so an early winter start needs the driveway or another legal spot. Since June 1, 2025, the provincial section of Highway 407 East from Pickering to Clarington has been toll free, which gives us a second route east when the 401 is slow.
